The Truth About Cellulite: What Really Causes It And The Best Way To Deal With It.

By Lucy Phillips

Cellulite is a filthy word with the health and fitness industry today. Those that are afflicted by it are puzzled as to why others don't and it's not often talked about because until very recently the exact causes were still unknown. The results that have come from cellulite research have often been quite vague and it's not until recently that we know what it actually is. Despite this, there is still much debate and misinformation as to what the root cause of cellulite actually is.

Cellulite may be caused by a variety of factors, hormones are often believed to be the biggest culprit. Women have a tendency to develop cellulite around puberty and pregnancy- times when hormonal imbalance is common. Through deductive reasoning we have come to the conclusion that hormones must be a cause- although there is no scientific evidence to support this.

Stress is often associated with cellulite- an increase in stress levels results in an increase in catecholamine levels. Catecholmines? It's a chemical linked with the development of cellulite which would suggest that maintaining a healthy lifestyle will be key to keeping cellulite at bay.

Since women have been going through puberty and getting pregnant from the dawn of age, why then has cellulite only become commonplace in the west from the end of the twentieth century?

The reason for such an increase in recent time is simple- an increase in fast sugars and fat consumption and a sedentary lifestyle- the latter being the main culprit. Despite what the drug companies will want you to believe, the root of the problem is directly related to the condition of muscle layers, and being desk bound in an office job is the best way of letting these muscle layers deteriorate. The best way to combat the problem is through exercise targeted at the problem areas.

One of the best types of exercises you can do to address cellulite in the lower body where it is most commonly found is walking. This doesn't sound very ground breaking but don't be to quick to undervalue the benefits of walking. Walking regularly will go a long way to rebuilding the muscle layers to their healthy state.

Walking a couple of kilometer every day will work wonders. Planning is key since this can easily become repetitive and procrastination will soon destroy your exercise routine. Make sure you plan lots of different routes in order not to become idle.

Getting rid of your cellulite is not the monumental task you may of thought it was, in fact it will have a knock on effect to the rest of your body and you will reap the benefits of a much healthier lifestyle.
